GIANT SPIDER ATTACKS, DESTROYS

Description

Second (and really, final) Stop-Motion exercise for Colleen Brennan's animation class at PCAE. (spring 2009)

Katharine, Ian, and I painstakingly brought life to this horrifying spider (a Halloween decoration of mine!) and used it to lay waste to a small city of blocks and another troupe of army men.

Look carefully and you might see the spider's silly-putty hat (in a few frames)!

It is the silly-putty hat of DOOM!

It was very hard to animate all eight legs moving at one time, in a convincing fashion, but I figured we were up to the challenge! We researched spiders and watched their walk cycles, then we used a roll of masking tape to mark up the floor and make sure that every leg stayed in place.

We were very tired and angry when we were finished, but it gave us valuable experience. On top of that, it took us just a few hours, remarkably.
